Project ALDI, Inc. Food Distribution Facility – Frederick, MD

A M King provided complete Design-Build services for this new 497,000 SF greenfield food distribution facility which was completed in 2007. The total site consists of 75 acres, approximately 70 acres of which were developed and improved. Extensive site work was required, with over 100,000 cubic yards of subsurface rock requiring removal. In addition to providing complete design and engineering services, A M King also managed the state and local project approval process and provided off-site roadway and utility design and construction. A M King also provided site analysis and due diligence for the site selection process. The total construction duration from start of foundations to substantial completion was 15 months.

Project Specifications:

  • 130,000 SF of cooler and freezer space ranging from -20° to 55°, 350,000 SF of dry warehouse space
  • 17,000 SF of single story class A office space
  • Structural steel frame with architectural precast wall panels with a granite aggregate finish
  • Two-part high-density shrinkage compensating floor slab was installed
  • 105 fully automated dock bays
  • Refrigerated space was serviced by evaporative fan coil units located in rooftop penthouses with cooling air distributed by ductwork
  • Ammonia refrigerant system from a central machine room
  • Over 500,000 SF of exterior concrete paving was placed for all truck and auto parking and drives
