Why A M King is Committed to Community Engagement
At A M King, our success isn’t measured solely by the complex facilities we design and construct or the jobs we create. We owe as much to the communities where we live and work as they do to us, and that responsibility guides our approach to community engagement. More than just a perk or feel-good initiative — it’s a core part of our purpose and company culture.
A genuine desire to help others is evident at all levels of our company, beginning at the top. Every leader in each of
A M King’s four offices joins their team members in participating in numerous community engagement events throughout the year.
Read on to find out why serving our communities matters, how it shapes who we are, and why we believe every organization with the resources to contribute should do the same.
Why We Serve Our Communities

“Community engagement builds relationships — between A M King and the communities where we work, with our clients, and amongst our employees,” says Dan Crist, A M King President.
Believing in the importance of community engagement is one thing; putting it into practice is another. At A M King, we don’t just talk about corporate social responsibility (CSR) — we live it. Every initiative, volunteer effort, and every program we support is guided by a simple principle: if we have the resources to make a difference, it’s our obligation to do so.
Our commitment isn’t about recognition or applause; it’s about giving back to and strengthening the communities that support us. Stronger communities mean stronger workplaces, stronger families, and stronger connections for everyone involved.
Community engagement is embedded in the fabric of our employee-owned company. Every employee participates not because it’s a checkbox, but because we believe that contributing to our communities is part of our shared responsibility. Our people understand that their work and their community are connected, and that connection drives meaningful action. Volunteering is just as critical to strengthening our civic society as other civic actions, like voting, and we work to make it part of our culture.
If a company has the means to contribute, it should — not for praise, but because it’s a moral and civic obligation.
In turn, our employee owners expect A M King to be engaged, supporting initiatives where they can make a real difference. This reciprocal commitment strengthens both the company and the communities we serve.
How We Put Community Engagement into Action

Our beliefs about community engagement translate into actions that benefit those in the community who need it most. Our initiatives include volunteer programs, partnerships, and activities designed to meet real community needs.
We approach every effort with humility, consistency, and the goal of making a genuine impact.
A M King employee volunteers serve as mentors to young professionals and students; sit on boards and committees for various community organizations; and champion a wide range of local non-profits through financial and service contributions. As avid supporters of education, many of our team members get involved in philanthropic activities through their alma maters.
Whether we’re mentoring teens at SCNOMA’s Project Pipeline, passing out uniforms and supplies to every student at Starmount Academy, volunteering at Camp CLT, assisting at Northern Illinois Food Bank, selecting gifts for Salvation Army’s Angel Tree kids or supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities, we have the shared goal of helping children and families with less-than-ideal circumstances.
By partnering with organizations that align with our values, we ensure our contributions create lasting change.
Leading by Example

At A M King, all employees participate in company-sponsored community engagement events. In fact, it’s fair to say that our efforts have not only resulted in deeper connections with community organizations, but also among our professional networks and client companies.
Strengthening the places where we operate isn’t just good business; it’s the right thing to do, and we believe it’s a standard every organization should hold itself to.
This belief drives every initiative we support. This is corporate social responsibility in action, guided by purpose rather than optics.
In fact, “Studies now show that corporate volunteering and other CSR-driven initiatives are the most effective employee engagement strategies, creating deep connections between employees, their companies, and their communities,” reports a Percent Pledge article entitled “The Business Case for Corporate Social Responsibility 2025.”
There is also a positive correlation between robust CSR activities, including employee volunteerism, and enhanced financial performance. A September 2025 study in the Journal of Financial Risk Management concludes that firms investing in environmental, ethical, economic, and social responsibility not only improve their brand reputation but also attain increased market share and profitability.
A M King’s corporate community service has led our employee-owners to further embrace community service by becoming personally involved in programs and non-profits that they care about. The company supports these efforts by providing 16 hours of additional PTO just for personal community engagement activities.
A Culture of Giving
It’s common to hear A M King’s employees talk about our company’s profound, positive impact on the clients we serve, and in the communities where we work.
A M King’s strong commitment, coupled with dependable action, creates a culture of giving that permeates every aspect of our company.
Looking forward, our commitment to community engagement is unwavering. Accountability, not applause, guides our actions, and we will continue to support our communities in meaningful ways.
We owe it to the places and people who make our work possible to keep showing up, contributing, and doing what’s right. When companies take that responsibility seriously, communities grow stronger — and so do we.
