The first expansion of the Cheney Brothers Statesville NC Distribution Center featured a 169,090-sf cold storage addition that helped CBI increase its refrigeration capabilities in the region and continue its northward growth path. That project included renovation of a 34,686-sf existing dry warehouse and conversion of a 37,388-sf existing cold storage space to ambient temperature storage. Notable was the development of a 2,000-sf, full commercial culinary center, construction of a new interior office mezzanine and 25 new dock doors.

An Expanded Cheney Brothers Statesville NC Distribution Center

Demolition of an existing parking lot paved the way for the second expansion, which included a 70,037-sf warehouse and relocation of their public market, Cheney Express. The addition of 15 new dry dock positions combined with two existing dry docks and 19 existing cooler docks brings the total to 36 and enhances CBI’s ability to receive and distribute product quickly and efficiently. The company gained 5,000 new slots to stock product, which effectively boosted their ability to distribute fresh meat, seafood and produce to customers. The scope of work on the newest expansion also included parking lot development, addition of a dry warehouse, expansion of the existing downstairs employee breakroom and relocation of Cheney Express.

In December 2021, the project was successfully completed on time and budget, bringing the total square footage in Statesville to 342,126. The complexity of these projects at the Cheney Brothers Statesville NC Distribution Center was heightened by the fact that all work was performed in a fully operational distribution facility.
