Historically, it has taken GE 76 weeks to build a turbine. Realizing the goal of 26 weeks would require a partner that could work quickly and safely to assist in the development of a premier series of lean lines. The ultimate objective was to more efficiently manufacture the blades in the combustion section of the gas turbines, reducing waste associated with processing, waiting, motion, inventory, moving equipment, over-production and defects. Utilizing prefabrication throughout the process accelerated schedules and limited safety concerns in the field.
