A M King Embarks On Nearly Half A Million Square Feet Of Work For Aldi, Inc.

Charlotte, NC—A M King, a fully integrated Design-Build firm based in Charlotte, is proud to announce three new expansion and renovation projects for discount grocer ALDI, Inc. In an effort to keep pace with rapid growth, the Batavia, IL company commissioned A M King to expand existing food distribution facilities in Frederick, MD, Jefferson, GA and South Windsor, CT. Construction is underway at each of the properties and all are scheduled to be completed next year.

A M King will renovate the existing 100,000-square feet of refrigerated and freezer perishable space in Frederick, including conversion to new temperature zones, and add a new 48,000-square feet, 32’ clear, fully-racked freezer. In Jefferson, A M King will build 55,000-square feet of perishable expansion and renovate 100,000-square-feet of existing perishable areas. The expansion of the South Windsor warehouse is multi-phased and will break down as follows: Perishable expansion – 70,000-square-feet; and infrastructure upgrades for a future dry warehouse expansion—100,000-square-feet. The total square footage of the projects at all three locations is nearly 500,000-square-feet.

The project in Frederick has a unique building design to accommodate coordination with the local airport authority and to protect forested conservation areas located to the South of the property. Unique upgrades in Frederick incorporate expansion of the ammonia refrigeration system; in Jefferson it’s the addition of dock positions on the backside of the Dry Warehouse for special buy items; and in South Windsor, A M King will coordinate truck apron expansion for trailer parking and install a Quell fire suppression system. Additional improvements may include some or all of the following: new employee welfare areas, creation of private office space and conference rooms and parking lot expansion. Sustainability initiatives consist of conversion to LED lighting, installation of white PVC roofs, VFDs on refrigeration equipment and photovoltaic solar expansion.
