South Windsor, CT—Nine years after A M King designed and built ALDI Inc.’s 500,000–square-feet food distribution facility in South Windsor, CT, the fully integrated Design-Build firm is expanding the facility, making way for additional cold storage space and an opportunity for the discount grocer to stretch its product line and boost growth in the Northeast region. The project is anticipated to be completed by September 2018.
The expansion is multi-phased and will break down as follows: Perishable expansion – 70,000-square-feet; interior renovations to office and employee welfare areas, which includes creating more private office space and expanding the large conference room; and infrastructure upgrades for a future dry warehouse expansion—100,000-square-feet.
“We are cutting in new dock positions at locations planned for the future,” says Senior Project Manager Carl Morse. “We are also adding a new interior mezzanine to create additional square footage to meet the Owner’s needs.”
In addition, A M King will coordinate truck apron expansion for trailer parking, install a Quell fire suppression system for the new Perishable expansion and expand the warehouse employee break room and locker room areas.
Sustainability initiatives include VFDs on equipment, a white PVC roof, photovoltaic solar expansion and a LED retrofit.
