A M King Unveils Aldi’s New National It Facility

Aurora, IL–A M King, a fully integrated Design-Build firm, reports that it has completed the design and interior renovation of an existing 1980s, 5-story, 82,000-square feet office building for ALDI’s National I.T. department—which provides support to all of their U.S. stores and distribution facilities. The additional office space will allow ALDI to support their continued growth and hire new employees.

The existing office building’s infrastructure and finishes were outdated and would not support ALDI’s desired use. A total demolition of the inside was completed in order to incorporate the latest design strategies and technology. The new space includes a 4,000-sqaure-foot work café designed for employee breaks, working lunches and company meetings; conference rooms with integrated audio/visual devices and collaboration spaces; a tier 3 server room with redundant cooling and power backup UPS/generator systems; wellness rooms; adjustable height furniture at all employee workstations and a redesigned floor layout with curved walls and bright and inviting colors.

The renovation also included the replacement of a new HVAC system; new electrical switchgear and distribution system; LED light fixtures and glass manager and conference room walls to increase natural light and create a more open environment for employees.

In addition, some challenges were discovered that needed to be corrected. For example, it was determined that the entire window system needed to be re-caulked and sealed. After doing so, the owner increased the energy efficiency of the building. One final way that we helped reduce energy costs and provide greater comfort to the end user was the installation of natural gas heat in the rooftop units.

The A M King project team included Project Manager JD Boone, Superintendent Joe Stoyko and Intern Caleb Cook.

“The success of this project lies with all of the team members involved and the client’s constant support,” says Project Manager JD Boone. “Design-build continues to produce high-quality projects for our clients and is quickly becoming the preferred method of delivery for many in the industry.”
