A M King completed design and construction of Phase 1 of a complex, food processing facility renovation in Concord, NC for California-based Custom Flavors. This milestone allows the company to reach more than 85 percent of the U.S. within two business days. We helped the company achieve that goal with a fast-tracked project that was finished just 11 months from award of services to owner occupancy.
Custom Flavors Concord, NC
This new food processing facility project underscores Custom Flavors’ continued investment in expanding operations and enhancing customer support for the future. Spanning 53,000-sf of manufacturing and lab environments, the new site doubles output potential and provides three times more room for product development. This growth allows Custom Flavors to respond more quickly to customer needs while investing in deeper formulation expertise and upgraded research infrastructure. Together, these advancements create a more efficient production environment, allow for greater volume, and uphold the rigorous quality and safety practices the brand is known for.
“With the opening of the Concord facility, Custom Flavors can now support even more complex formulations, create and deliver samples faster, and execute higher-volume flavor runs for beverages, confections, snacks, nutritional applications, and other applications requiring custom flavor development,” according to the company’s website. Capabilities include:
- Liquid Flavor Production
- Powder Flavor Production
- Quality & Logistics
Scope Summary
As part of the first phase, A M King modernized the entire facility, including modernized production areas. utilities and utility rooms, support areas, and office areas. Subsequent phases of the project will feature additional labs including an R&D lab, Q/C Lab, a culinary testing space, additional office space, and storage space. We provided Custom Flavors with high-fidelity renderings and an immersive walkthrough video, bridging the gap between design and a tangible, first-taste experience of their future facility.
Supporting perishable production demands a highly controlled environment, so each area of the facility is built to comply with rigorous cleanliness and food-safety standards. A M King worked collaboratively with Custom Flavors to incorporate sanitary design throughout the facility, ensuring all spaces and equipment can be thoroughly cleaned and maintained. To support these goals, the facility includes IMP on interior walls, sloped flooring, strategically placed drains, durable finishes, dedicated hand- and boot-washing stations, and air curtains.
A M King worked with the process engineer to incorporate P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) requirements into the design of the facility. In areas where ignitable concentrations of liquids are present, our electrical design ensures they are explosion proof. In addition, we installed an elaborate mechanical system that exhausts Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and dust from the air in the production and testing areas, reducing employee exposure and limiting dispersion into surrounding air.
This multi-phase food processing facility renovation in Concord, NC, positions Custom Flavors for long-term growth and faster service across the East Coast.
