Charlotte, NC—For the fifth consecutive year, A M King and sister company, Aiken Mitchell, participated in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, a need-based program for children up to 12 years old in Mecklenburg and Union counties. With help from its media partners and generous members of the community, the Salvation Army provides gifts to thousands of children each year.
Brian T. King, founder and president of A M King, has been a long-time supporter of the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, and now provides each employee with $150 each year to spend on his or her own Angel. A M King then adopts an additional 100 Angels. Last year, 138 Angels were provided Christmas toys and winter clothing from the firm.
A M King employees began shopping for their Angels shortly after Thanksgiving, coordinated gift package assembly for each individual Angel and loaded clothes, toys and bikes onto the Salvation Army truck for delivery. The effort took a little muscle and a lot of heart and made wishes come true for kids who otherwise may not have received anything for Christmas.
“It was a pleasure to shop for this little stranger, imagining her life and hoping that I helped her to have a joyful Christmas morning. I could almost feel the relief that this child’s family felt,” said Barbara Harris, A M King Project Assistant. “It is exciting how A M King has escalated this program. Even though it is a lot of work, shopping and sorting all the toys, bicycles, games and clothing for almost 150 children this year, it is a happy project that I get to do with my A M King family.”
More than 6,000 families in need registered with the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte for Christmas assistance. This represents more than 10,700 children who wouldn’t have Christmas help without the Salvation Army and the generosity of the Charlotte community. More than 2,000 volunteers contributed in excess of 7,000 hours this holiday season, not counting thousands of people who adopted Angels, purchased gifts, donated toys and rang the bell at the iconic Red Kettle. A M King is proud to be a part of the effort that netted so much for many people during the holidays and made their lives just a little bit easier.
